Overview of COVID-19 Home Testing Kit Coverage

Starting January 15, 2022, BMC HealthNet Plan began covering COVID-19 home testing kits for Qualified Health Plan and ConnectorCare members. The tests must be for personal use and not for employment purposes.

How many test kits can I get?

Qualified Health Plan and ConnectorCare members can receive eight (8) COVID-19 home testing kits per month through their insurance, at no cost to the member. This could include four (4) packages containing two (2) test kits each or eight (8) packages containing one test kit each. There are no prior authorization requirements to receive your kits and you do not need a prescription from a doctor.

The process for reimbursing COVID-19 home testing kits may change regularly. Please check back before buying testing kits to make sure you receive full reimbursement.

There are three ways to get your kits:
  1. Order testing kits for home delivery through our pharmacy partner, Express Scripts. Simply register for an Express Scripts account, select “Order COVID-19 test kits” and follow the instructions on screen.
  2. Visit an in-network pharmacy and request your testing kits at the pharmacy counter. You do not need to pay up front costs if you choose this option. Please bring your BMC HealthNet Plan member ID card with you since proof of insurance may be required to receive your kits.
  3. Buy any FDA-approved COVID-19 testing kit and get reimbursed up to $12 per kit (or $24 for a box of 2 kits). You may buy testing kits at any pharmacy or retailer, or order them online. Then submit your receipt with a completed Member Reimbursement Form to get paid back. Testing kits cannot be reimbursed without a receipt. Examples of FDA approved tests include BinaxNow, QuickVue, and FlowFlex.

There is generally no limit on the number of COVID-19 diagnostic tests, including at-home tests, that must be covered when ordered or administered by a health care provider.
